On the occasion of his 100th birthday

On 8 January of this year the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi, wrote to Chief Justice Emeritus John J. Cremona to congratulate him on the occasion of his 100th birthday, which fell on the Feast of the Epiphany, 6 January. In his short message President Raimondi referred to Cremona’s “remarkable contribution to the Convention system as a Judge in Strasbourg” from 1965 to 1992. On 15 January Chief Justice Cremona wrote back to thank President Raimondi, and referred to the “happy and indelible memories” he has of the Strasbourg Court.

Chief Justice Emeritus Cremona is the oldest retired member of the Judiciary of Malta and the oldest retired member of the European Court of Human Rights.
